Coffee & Tea drinks

Some of the world’s most popular beverages

Coffee and Tea

Coffee and tea are some of the world’s most popular beverages today. Tea is the second most consumed drink in the world, after water. There are many types of teas, depending on their oxidation levels: green, yellow, oolong and black. Well-known varieties of black tea include Darjeeling, Assam, Turkish and Ceylon teas.

Cold coffee drinks have become increasingly popular in recent times, and below are the trends we see coming.

Iced Coffee

RTD coffee is primed to target the on-the-go energy needs of workers who are now in the office more often. 25% of US consumers who mostly go to work but sometimes work at home drink RTD coffee (vs 19% of all consumers)*. New and exciting taste variants emerge creating new opportunities for FMCG on the hunt for the next big thing. Added flavours like chocolate, white chocolate, caramel or salty caramel, and, of course, vanilla. On the efficacy side, RTD launches with high caffeine claims are on the rise, accounting for 8% of global innovation in 2022 (+3% vs 2021).

Cold Brew

Despite the centuries-long tradition of coffee consumption, the market continually introduces new trends each year, such as the popularization of cold brew coffee. As the name suggests, cold brew is made by steeping coffee grounds in cold or room temperature water for an entire day, resulting in a higher caffeine concentration and smoother, less bitter flavour compared to traditional coffee. Younger Americans tend to give higher ratings of excellence or very good to cold brew coffee compared to their older counterparts.

Roiboos:

A remarkable herbal tea celebrated for its distinctive flavors and healthy halo. Harvested from the Aspalathus linearis plant in South Africa, Rooibos, also known as red bush tea, offers a caffeine-free alternative that captivates tea enthusiasts worldwide.
Beyond its exquisite taste, Rooibos resonates with a healthy lifestyle. Rich in antioxidants, minerals, and vitamin C, Rooibos tea is believed to support immune health.

Yerba Maté:

A beverage deeply rooted in South American tradition, celebrated for both its robust flavors and exceptional efficacy. Sourced from the leaves of the Ilex paraguariensis plant, Yerba Mate is renowned for its invigorating properties and unique taste profile.

Yerba Mate can be altered to a wide range of flavors that cater to diverse preferences. From the bold and earthy notes of traditional Yerba Mate to a zesty infusion of citrus or the subtle hints of mint and lemongrass. The Yerba Maté flavours can be mixed to match an experience for every palate and target group.

Beyond its remarkable taste, Yerba Mate is often used as an alternative source of energy in energy drinks, containing essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Matcha:

a vibrant and finely powdered green tea that has captured the hearts of tea enthusiasts worldwide. Originating from Japan, Matcha is more than just a beverage – it is a symbol of mindfulness, tradition, and an exquisite flavor profile.

The distinct taste of Matcha is characterized by its rich umami notes, accompanied by a delicate sweetness and a hint of natural bitterness. Grown in the shade to enhance its chlorophyll content, the tea leaves are meticulously stone-ground to produce a powder that, when whisked with hot water, transforms into a velvety, frothy blend.

Matcha’s popularity has surged not only for its exceptional flavor but also for its health connotations. Packed with antioxidants, amino acids, and a moderate dose of caffeine, Matcha is celebrated for providing a focused and calm energy boost.

Black Tea

a classic and globally cherished beverage that has stood the test of time. Known for its robust taste and versatility, black tea has become a staple in households and cultures worldwide, weaving a rich tapestry of rituals and enjoyment.

The distinctive flavor of black tea is a harmonious blend of boldness, depth, and often a hint of malty sweetness. Derived from the Camellia sinensis plant, the tea leaves undergo a process of withering, rolling, oxidation, and drying, resulting in the dark and full-bodied characteristics that define black tea.

What sets black tea apart is not only its captivating flavor but also its enduring popularity. Whether enjoyed plain, with a splash of milk, or paired with spices in chai blends, black tea caters to a diverse range of preferences. Its global acclaim can be attributed to its invigorating nature, comforting aroma, and the way it effortlessly complements various cultural traditions.

Green Tea

A beloved beverage celebrated for its distinct flavor and health-related claims. Derived from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, green tea has captivated tea enthusiasts worldwide, offering a delightful combination of crispness, herbaceous notes, and a hint of natural sweetness.

The flavor profile of green tea is characterized by its light and refreshing taste, owing to minimal oxidation during the production process. The leaves are carefully harvested and quickly heated to preserve their vibrant green color and delicate flavors. Whether enjoyed in its purest form or infused with additional elements like jasmine or mint, green tea presents a spectrum of tastes to suit every palate.

White Tea

a delicate and nuanced beverage that embodies purity and elegance. Revered for its unique flavor and minimal processing, white tea has emerged as a refined choice among tea connoisseurs, offering a gentle taste that whispers tranquility.

The flavor profile of white tea is characterized by its mild and subtle notes, with a delicate sweetness and hints of floral or fruity undertones. Harvested from the young leaves and buds of the Camellia sinensis plant, white tea undergoes minimal oxidation, allowing its natural flavors to shine through. This gentle processing method preserves the tea’s delicate taste and light, almost ethereal quality.

Hard Tea

a contemporary and spirited twist on the classic beverage, blending the familiar essence of tea with a modern kick. Hard tea has swiftly become a popular choice among those seeking a lively and flavorful alternative, marrying the traditional comfort of tea with the boldness of an alcoholic beverage.

The flavor profile of hard tea combines the familiar notes of tea with a subtle infusion of alcohol, resulting in a beverage that balances the refreshing qualities of tea with a crisp, effervescent finish. Whether flavored with citrus, berries, or herbs, hard tea offers a diverse range of tastes that cater to various preferences, making it a versatile and enjoyable choice for a wide audience.

As the popularity of hard tea continues to soar*****, it has become a staple in social gatherings, outdoor events, and casual celebrations.
